Established in 1989, the Greater Knoxville Foreign Trade Zone (#148) operates under a Grant of Authority from the U.S. Department of Commerce, Foreign-Trade Zones (FTZ) Board, International Trade Administration. The Grantee is The Industrial Development Board of Blount County, and the Cities of Alcoa and Maryville, TN, which work cooperatively with the region’s economic development agencies.
In 2013, our zone was reorganized under the FTZ Board’s Alternative Site Framework which allows new and existing companies to establish “User-driven Sites” anywhere within our zone’s Service Area. The Knoxville FTZ also has three “Magnet Sites” pre-approved by the FTZ Board, where companies may locate and more expeditiously operate under zone procedures without applying for a User-driven Site.
As required by the FTZ Board, our zone operates under public utility principles and fees, policies and procedures detailed in our Zone Schedule.
